I’m a western states writer based in Colorado. I currently work for The Colorado Sun as a statewide culture reporter. I also accept freelance assignments for culture writing and criticism.

“Culture” can mean a lot of things, like:

the poet laureate who planned a giant community nap in colorado springs.

A bookshop that pays people to sit down and read.

A giant troll in a historic mining town.

women in ski films.

the time taylor swift came to town.

and the annual tradition of parading 30 longhorn cattle through downtown denver.

Culture is also labor:

how a sony buyout could effect newly formed unions at alamo drafthouse.

employee organizing at the denver art museum.

why it’s so hard to get a union contract in colorado.

It’s economy:

what colorado is doing to attract more filmmakers.

legislation that makes ticket buying more transparent.

a look at how colorado creative districts work for their communities.

why boulder is trying to get the sundance festival to ditch utah.

the state arts budget that hadn’t budged in over a decade.

And what’s the big deal with buc-ee’s?

And, of course, culture is the arts:

It’s this 160-acre earthwork in the san luis valley.

and this film festival’s first year in an historic barn.

And cowboys.
